Week Three
The Decisions on Magdalena Yesil
In this last week, we focused particularly a lot on a decision that Magdalena Yesil had to make between choosing jobs. Without getting too deep into the story I learned that it is important to make decisions based on where you might see yourself in the future. In the story, she has two good job options presented to her and she has to decide between one or the other. I thought that she should turn down the higher-paying job to pursue the things that she already enjoyed doing. I think that this story can be interpreted in multiple different ways. I came to my conclusion because I like to envision myself making a similar decision myself. Something that I want to start considering in my decision-making process is whether will it still make me happy five years from now. With that I also like to think to myself if I were to go back in time is this a decision I wish I would have made five years in the past?. This is something that I would like to incorporate into my job decision-making process.
I also set up some ethical boundaries that I will apply to my professional life. The things that I will always do are: I will always hold myself responsible for integrity, I will always respect others, and I will always be fair in my dealings. Some of the things that I decided I would never do are: I will never take advantage of others, I will never treat others unjustly, and I will never let my frustrations control my actions. I plan on using these guardrails for the rest of my life. Although they sound simple and they are mostly easy to follow I think that it is good to establish them. I believe that striving to be honest can go a long way in a lot of companies. I also believe that it is something that you have to demonstrate before most people will begin to trust you.
