Week 8 Overcoming Challenges This week I was reminded of an old video where a father gets stranded in Saint George, Utah. In the story, the car breaks down multiple times in the same spot, making the father have to walk miles into town to ask for help. The moral of the story is don't give up even when things get hard. There will be a solution and things will get better. Another thing that I learned is that it is important to start large tasks no matter what it is you start on. In the example from the week, there was a project that needed to be completed and the first day they spent an hour on it. In that whole hour, all they got done was completing a title page basically. But then the next day, others who were involved could not do a title page to help because it had already been done so they had to focus on the project itself. By slowly moving forward with the project every day it made it less overwhelming. I think that this information can be very useful in life. It helps you to...

Week 7 Moving Forward with a Driving Passion This week, we learned about the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. These habits are as follows: be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win/win, seek first to understand, then to be understood, synergize, and sharpen the saw. Being proactive is a given in almost anything, but beginning with the end in mind is not as easy. It is hard for me to have a complete plan for everything that I want in life. I believe that I am constantly changing, but I can still have a goal that I want to achieve or a person that I want to become. That is the end goal that I have in mind, and once I get there, I will create another one. The most important thing that I learned from the third habit is that you cannot have public victory with others until you have had victory with yourself. To think win/win is to work with others who benefit from you, and you benefit from them. It is a pretty simple definition but it c...

Week 6 Journal Reflection. This last week we talked a lot about the sacrifices as an entrepreneur. One of the biggest benefits of becoming an entrepreneur is that you can make your own schedule. This is great but especially when you start out, you will likely be having to work more than normal in order to be successful. This being the case in one of the videos I watched this week it talked about making rules. If you are to start a business, it is important to make rules, such as eating with your family or not working on weekends. these rules will help you establish a healthy work-life balance. Either way, sacrifices will have to be made but if you establish rules they will be easier decisions to make. Another important thing that I learned from the videos this week was that it is important to never be too busy to accept a church calling. That being said it is important to put God before your business and hobbies. By doing so you will be completing more important work. Just l...

Week 5 Making Decisions In this week, we read a story about a person who has a card-making business. In the story, the person decides to take a slow growth approach to her business. She also gets feedback about her product from many families and friends. Through this process, she gets the opportunity to network and find individuals and corporate businesses to buy from her. Fast forward to the future, she has a lot of work on her hands, and she is really busy, but she can make up to 3000 a month. She has to face a decision on what to do with the business because she also wants to start a family. This creates conflict with what she wants to do in the future. In my opinion, she should hire others to help her or sell the business. This is because I think family is more important. With the business that he has now it would be hard to do both unless something changes. It was an interesting story and it helped remind me of the importance of prioritizing. We al...

Week 4 Launching Leaders I learned from a book called Launching Leaders this week. One thing, in particular, was "the formula." This is a statement found in the book that helps you live a better life. The formula is as follows: Get up early, Work Hard, Get your Education, Find your oil, Mark your mark, and Give Back. I plan on implementing these principles in my personal and professional life. We also talked about facing our fears. Part of this explained how many successful people often face their fears and fail at them. What makes them successful is the fact that they keep trying. Part of this lesson also talked about how many of us have many fears but the truth is most of what we fear will likely never happen to us. The other thing is that if we do fail we just have to keep going and naturally we can always get back up there is never a lost situation. I believe that if you pursue a calling with diligence and you help others along the way, it would be really hard for your ...
