Week 7 Moving Forward with a Driving Passion
This week, we learned about the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. These habits are as follows: be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win/win, seek first to understand, then to be understood, synergize, and sharpen the saw. Being proactive is a given in almost anything, but beginning with the end in mind is not as easy. It is hard for me to have a complete plan for everything that I want in life. I believe that I am constantly changing, but I can still have a goal that I want to achieve or a person that I want to become. That is the end goal that I have in mind, and once I get there, I will create another one. The most important thing that I learned from the third habit is that you cannot have public victory with others until you have had victory with yourself. To think win/win is to work with others who benefit from you, and you benefit from them. It is a pretty simple definition but it can become more difficult in the real world. I think that the fifth habit is my favorite one out of all of them. It is to seek to understand, then seek to be understood. I think that this is a great way to be able to work with others professionally. No one wants to work for someone that only thinks about themselves or they don't put in the time to listen to others. The sixth one is a new word that I learned this week. It is called synergize which means that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Another example of this is one plus one equals three. This habit is about drawing energy from others and putting it into effectiveness. The last one is sharpening the saw or in other words refining your work over and over again.
