The Beginning of the Journey W1

Week 1

At the beginning of this course as I studied “The start up of you” I pondered a couple questions that were prompted. What is my calling in life?, How will I measure success?, and what is meaningful to me? For me personally I have always wanted to be in a position in business where I could give someone else opportunities to learn more skills. I feel like I have been helped a lot in my life and that my calling in life is to do the same to others. I like to measure my success by making realistic goals and trying to achieve them. Finally for the last question what is meaningful to me. I think that anything no matter how small that contributes to my goals that I have made is meaningful to me. Another thing that particularly stood out to me this week was a video from Guy Kawasaki. What I got from the video is that it is important to do what you love. He explained how it doesnt matter if what you love pays low wages or high wages. This is because if you love doing this thing you will get extremely good at it and you will also enjoy doing it obviously. This could bring you a lot of success but it is also not guarenteed. You could also do something that you do not love and make a lot of money, but at the end of the day be completly miserable. If you think about it no matter what you do it can go either way. The lesson I learned from this is that if you do what you love you cannot go wrong. I believe this is because a lot of people measure success based off of how good they are at the things that matter most to us.
